Last November the voters of Tillamook County voted down a proposal for a 45 cent tax levy for road maintenance. I was one of those who reluctantly supported the levy. I say reluctantly because my support by no means meant that I believed that there were no other currently collected tax dollars available to be used for roads. I did so because I believed that the current makeup of the Board of Commissioners is not courageous enough to reallocate already collected tax dollars to our roads and that maintaining our road system was important enough that I would suck it up and pay more taxes to save them. Well another tax issue is looming on the horizon in Tillamook County.
The County Library’s current tax levy of 65 cents is due to expire this coming year. Undoubtedly supporters of the Library are preparing to ask the tax payers to renew this levy. All those “I Geek the Library” ads are not for nothing.
